About NPPA (National Pharmacy Purchasing Association)
The 1st Association for Pharmacy Buyers
Members of the Association consist of Pharmacy Buyers & Managers (regardless of their local/additional job title), mainly from but not limited to, private, non-profit, or government-run institutional facilities (Hospitals/Medical Centers, Health Systems, & Clinics). In addition to who support Pharmacy Buyers (Group Purchasing Organization executives, Drug Companies who service & supply the industry, Specialty Outsourcing Pharmacies, Pharmacy Management Companies).
How it all started: In 1991, NPPA’s Founder, President/CEO, & Editor-In-Chief, Dale J. Kroll, started his own publishing firm, Summerdale Enterprises (now Incorporated). Dale had previously worked as a Pharmacy Buyer in a 450-bed Medical Center for 5 years, and then for the next 14 years as a Pharmacy Contract Administrator of a hospital group purchasing organization (GPO) with over 1,000 members.
A true visionary, Dale recognized the need for an educational resource specifically designed for this group of highly motivated, influential, and otherwise unrecognized, group of individuals. So after leaving his GPO position, in March of 1994, he published Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook for the first time, with the help of our current Vice President, Editor, & Event Director, Francine Morgano, and soon gained many loyal Pharmacy Purchasing Agents subscribers.
Then in 1997, Summerdale Enterprises organized and hosted their 1st Annual Pharmacy Purchasing Conference in Las Vegas, a tradition that quickly grew each year. Progress continued to be made, and in January 2010, Summerdale Enterprises Inc. founded NPPA – the National Pharmacy Purchasing Association, with their previous subscriber base now becoming NPPA Members.
Every year since 1997 (with the exception of 2020, when we had to cancel due to the COVID-19 pandemic), the Annual NPPA (National Pharmacy Purchasing Association) Conference has continued to grow and legitimize this important profession for Pharmacy Buyers, that was previously un-noticed and under-appreciated. Our record-breaking numbers from a past NPPA Conference (2019) were 358 Pharmacy & GPO Attendees and 114 Vendor-Exhibitor Companies.
