Pharmacy Buyer Day - Friday of the 3rd full week
in October
2012: October 26
Pharmacy Buyer Day was the brainchild of Beth Meese, formerly
the Pharmacy Purchasing Agent for Provena United Samaritan
Medical Center in Danville, IL, now the Service Excellence Liason for the
same hospital who came up with the idea back in 2005.
In 2007, we at the National Pharmacy Purchasing Association (NPPA) took her suggestion and made it into a movement. We have created a petition (see below),
which anyone interested in supporting our movement can sign (yourself, other Pharmacy & Hospital staff, family, friends).
In addition to the petition, we are launching a letter-writing campaign to our local congressman, and any other Politician
whose ear we can grab, to get legislative support to officially recognize both a local and a national, Pharmacy Buyer Day.
We also suggest using any Facebook pages or other such networks that you may have,
to put the link to the petition up to encourage more friends to sign it easily. Check the link at the bottom of the
page for the link.
Help Make National
Pharmacy Buyer Day a Reality by Signing our Petition NPPA is very happy to
announce that we have now met our initial goal announced in September, to get at least 500 signatures on our online petition
for the recognition of a national Pharmacy Buyer Day, by this year’s Pharmacy Buyer Day on October 21 (as of September
1, 2011, the petition has 626 signatures). Thanks
to all NPPA members out there, Buyers, Vendors, and GPO reps, who took the time to sign and spread the word to co-workers,
friends, and family.
After reaching this initial goal, we can seriously pursue taking our next step:
presenting our petition to Congress and start the process to make National Pharmacy Buyer Day a federal day of recognition
(once we get closer to 750-1,000 signatures).
Send Your City & State
the Buyer Day Proclamation
The NPPA Pharmacy Buyer Day Proclamation is
here below, for members to send to their city’s Mayor or state's Governor, to request they recognize national Pharmacy
Buyer Day. Most
states have a Department of Proclamations (for CA, just send to attention of the Governor, there is no specific department). You can either use the
“blank” proclamation here below (fill in your name, address & status as NPPA member), or look for a formal
one from your city/state. To use your city's formal one, go online and do a search
on “request a proclamation for _______ (your city/state).” Click
on your city/state and follow their instructions, copying the text of the blank here below, with your information included
at the end in the space for that. Normally these things are rubber-stamped every
day, and there's no fee involved. For the cities, it takes about 3 weeks to process,
but for the states it will likely take considerably longer, and can be requested a year in advance. Every year’s Pharmacy Buyer Day will be the Friday of the 3rd
week of October, which is officially considered “Health System Pharmacy Week.”
