purchasing professionals, published in a timely manner, for the immediate benefit, education and career growth of its subscribers
and those in the pharmaceutical industry.
In looking out for, and to, others in our profession, we highlight the positive
achievements of colleagues and discover that, as a result, we all become better at what we do.

Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook Newsletter
Published
by Summerdale Enterprises, Inc., the independent subscription newsletter,
Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook, is totally dedicated to the pharmacy purchasing profession. Published monthly, except in February and August, this publication concentrates on the news, features,
technologies, innovations, savings techniques, generic and name brand introductions by pharmaceutical companies, inventory
control methods, anything of interest to pharmacy purchasing professionals in health care institutions, purchasing groups,
and other health related companies that purchase or produce pharmaceuticals. Readers
are encouraged to submit articles and share information so that colleagues can benefit from shared expertise. Company Advertising is also available.
Annual
Pharmacy Purchasing Networking Conferences
Since 1997, we have successfully conducted the only independent national meeting
specifically for the pharmacy purchasing profession, in Las Vegas, Nevada, with
CE credits available through our association with ProCE, Inc. Subscribers can
earn significant commissions by referring vendors who advertise and display at our conferences. Our only issue is pharmacy purchasing.

the Staff
Dale J. Kroll, President & CEO
Dale J. Kroll, a native of South Bend,
Indiana, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of
Notre Dame in 1970. He began his pharmacy career in the early 1970’s at
Bronson Methodist Hospital
in Kalamazoo, Michigan as
a Pharmacy Technician, and quickly became the Pharmacy Buyer of this 450-bed hospital.
He transitioned to group purchasing in
1977, when at Pacific Health Resources in Los Angeles, California,
a nine-hospital group, he became the first Pharmacy Contract Administrator for Associated Hospital Systems, which eventually
merged with other purchasing groups and became American Healthcare Systems (AmHS). In
1986, he was hired directly by American Healthcare Systems, which had established a corporate office in San Diego, where he continued as the group’s (then comprised of over 1,000 hospitals)
Pharmacy Contract Administrator.
As an entrepreneur, he founded the publishing
firm Summerdale Enterprises in 1991, and began Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook newsletter in March of 1994. At the beginning of 2006, the company incorporated, becoming Summerdale Enterprises,
Inc. In 1997, he presided over the 1st Annual Pharmacy Purchasing
Networking Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, a tradition which has grown every year, with the 12th and largest ever
conference being held in August of 2008. In addition to his writing, as Editor-In-Chief
of this subscription trade publication for the pharmacy purchasing specialty, he also performs consulting and speaking in
this, his field of expertise.
Francine B. Morgano, Executive Vice
President & Editor
Francine B. Morgano grew up in Long Island, New
York, and Boulder,
Colorado.
After moving to San Diego with her family in 1983, she went to college at the University of California, Santa Barbara, then returned to San Diego, where she worked as an Accounting
Assistant for a few years. She started to work with Summerdale Enterprises, Inc. from its very beginnings in 1994.
Jennifer
Barkenhagen, Office & Event Manager
Jennifer joined the staff in the spring of 2005,
and is currently working as Office & Event Manager.
Jennifer came to us from Intuit, Inc. where she served
as Project Manager for the Intuit Tax Freedom Project, providing free electronic tax returns to underserved and disadvantaged
tax payers. Before that, she was an Administrator for CIGNA HealthCare, where
she developed standard operating procedures for worldwide business units, wrote, edited staff training manuals, and created
databases for tracking business trends.
Michael J.W. Thomas, CPhT, Assistant Editor, Researcher, Webmaster
Mike started his career like most pharmacy
buyers – as a pharmacy technician, at St. Joseph Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He
soon moved on to Thomas Jefferson
University Hospital, where he
was one of the test subjects for the soon-to-be-initiated ASHP Pharmacy Technician Training Program. He spent the next eight years honing his technician skills and learning to master a new tool–the
computer, where he designed over 100 programs for the department. After a short
stint in the IT department there, he moved to John F. Kennedy Memorial
Hospital, where his pharmacy buying skills were fine tuned. After fourteen years at JFK, he had a short stay as Pharmacy Buyer at Jeanes
Hospital, then moved to Kennedy
Memorial Hospital in Cherry
Hill, New Jersey as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician.
He discovered Pharmacy Purchasing Outlook
newsletter in 1999, and jumped in head-first, as an active and enthusiastic subscriber.
Then in his off-time, while still living on the East Coast and working full-time, he opened and designed our first
website and maintained it, as Webmaster, and then, for the past 3 years, he served as Conference Moderator. Recently, Mike joined the Summerdale Enterprises, Inc. staff officially, with a move out West, and he currently
serves as Assistant Editor, Researcher, and Webmaster.
Lawrence Klein, Advertising Manager, Researcher
Lawrence began working for Summerdale Enterprises, Inc. in November 2006. He has had a wide and varied career, from owning a deli to editing a monthly Arts magazine to managing
a theater for the Museum of Contemporary Art
in La Jolla, California. Lawrence has also
managed various businesses and worked as a sales associate, selling jewelry, antiques, fossils and collectable seashells.
